6/26 – mile 857 - If you wondered whether the garbage patch was real…it is, sadly. Pieces of small plastic and Styrofoam are everywhere. Probably every 20-25’ there’s another piece. Crazy when you think about the fact that we are more than 600 miles offshore from anywhere. Saw a turtle swimming his way along. Not much life otherwise.

I remember seeing my first every piece of offshore trash in 1977. A yellow Styrofoam Quarter Pounder box. Couldn’t believe that there was trash 300+ miles offshore. This makes that seem naïve.
