Flexibility is the key to success. Winds south of the Aleutians aren’t cooperating well and will be in our teeth going west to Adak. So we are diverting to Dutch Harbor on Unilaska and grabbing diesel as well as a few fresh groceries and maybe even laundry. Sadly, Scott will be departing the trip there and flying off to prepare for his next adventure.
We should arrive in Dutch on Tuesday as we are about 350nm away at the moment. Be a total of 24 days at sea - my longest on a sailboat by far. It’s flown by after a chaotic start. But good to hit land. Be a welcome change, though short at 24 hours or less.
From there we will head into the Bering Sea and make the 800+ mile trip to Attu - our farthest point west at almost 172 degrees east longitude. Winds and seas look favorable for the passage (hoping that sticks). Amazing to be sailing in such a place. Not exactly the Bahamas.
For now just continuing through another night. Sailing at 7+ knots in 18 knots of wind, watching the last of the light fade, and looking forward to my next watch as 0500, my favorite watch of all.
