We made it to Kiska today and the Aleutians made sure we knew who was in charge. We got into the anchorage, found the spot that had been swept for ordinance. Pretty much all of Kiska has not been cleared and the harbor is littered with wrecks and debris (including Japanese mini submarines). We anchor and look at the landscape. Everywhere there are signs of battle and WW II. Foxholes are everywhere and blast holes still show as well. It's a surreal landscape preserving a battle from nearly 80 years ago.
We decide to go on shore. We are going to hit the small pond ironically named Trout Pond, and see if we can find the trout and salmon we didn’t find in Attu. So we launch the dinghy and the wind immediately increases to 35 knots. We quickly abandon all plans to go to shore, let out more scope, and realize the anchor is starting to drag. Kiska wins as we bundle up and head off to the next destination, Adak, and its much needed Fuel Dock.
