Depature Day – nautical mile 0

Depature Day – nautical mile 0 – Fuel on board, food on board, crew on board. Nothing is quite finished, we have some things to do underway, and some things we didn’t and won’t get to. So time to go.

Food is packed (but everywhere). Cans are de-labeled and marked, all packaging is left behind (as all plastic stays on the boat for the whole trip). We have gear for fishing, skiing, mountaineering and even diving. Our safety gear is extensive and well thought out. The boat is super bomber, having been completely outfitted for this trip.

Do we make it to Attu? Not sure. It’s a LONG way upwind to get there through deep offshore waters. We will see what the ocean and wind gives us. But for now we are doing the hardest thing in every expedition…leaving the dock.
